For 30 years, in keeping with our mission, we have worked to find a cure and improve the quality of life for those affected by hepatitis B worldwide.
The theme for our 30th Anniversary is “Celebrating 30 Years Together.” Along with the events we are planning, the Foundation will continue to raise awareness and spread the word about this major milestone and, more importantly, the Foundation’s many accomplishments. We want you to enjoy the historical content on these pages and we invite you to participate in our scheduled events.
We have launched a video series highlighting selected leaders, supporters, partners and professionals such as Joan and Tim Block, former Congressman Jim Greenwood, and Nobel-Prize Winner Dr. Baruch S. Blumberg. You can watch the first of this series on this website.
The Foundation will convey the good news through social media and share anniversary messages and content in our newsletters. We launched this 30th anniversary website to highlight the Foundation's history, including the creation of our two partner organizations, the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute and the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center.
We hear from patients every day, hundreds annually, who are seeking advice, answers and even referrals to physicians who are liver specialists. The inquiries come by email, phone and Facebook. Each receives an individual response from our experienced team.
A focus of our mission has always been advocating for patients’ rights, increased government funding for research into hepatitis B and other key issues. Working with our public health partners, we have helped expand access to testing and vaccinations, raised public awareness and improved patient education.
Through our website, webinars and seminars, daily messaging on social media, our regular newsletters and our work with partner organizations, the Foundation’s team shares the latest and best information about advances in hepatitis B diagnosis, treatment and related issues.
More than 18 years ago, the Foundation created its research arm, the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute, to pursue the cure for hepatitis B. Its more than 30 scientists work to advance drug discovery and conduct research into hepatitis B diagnosis, treatment and associated issues, particularly hepatitis D and liver cancer.
We invite you to participate in this year's special events.
The Foundation's annual Crystal Ball Gala event is scheduled for April 30, 2021, and serves as a focal point of our celebration.
More InfoWorld Hepatitis Day is celebrated every year on July 28th. This date was chosen because it’s the birthday of Dr. Baruch S. Blumberg.
More InfoWe are planning a special event in December to celebrate the culmination of our 30th anniversary and the holiday season.
More InfoThe Hepatitis B Foundation is a national nonprofit dedicated to finding a cure and improving the quality of life for those affected by hepatitis B worldwide. Our commitment includes funding focused research, promoting disease awareness, supporting immunization and treatment initiatives, and serving as the primary source of information for patients and their families, the medical/scientific community and general public.
SINCE 2010 YOU HAVE HELPED US RAISE OVER
We ask that you to consider helping the Foundation as a donor or a volunteer.
In 1991, Paul and Janine Witte with Timothy and Joan Block were deeply moved by the plight of a young family affected by hepatitis B. To the dismay of the Wittes and Blocks, they discovered there was no place for this family to turn for support, nor was there any organization devoted to finding a cure for hepatitis B.
With the personal support of Dr. Baruch Blumberg, who won the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the hepatitis B virus, and the help of the local New Hope, PA community, the Wittes and Blocks responded to this unmet need by working tirelessly to establish the Hepatitis B Foundation.
Today, the Hepatitis B Foundation has since grown from a grassroots effort into a professional organization with a global reach. Since its opening, The Hepatitis B Foundation has established two sister organizations, both of which are nonprofits: the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute and the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center (PABC).
Together, the three organizations work to advocate and to find a cure for hepatitis B, expand biotechnology in the surrounding region, and launch new ideas and discoveries that can make a difference in the global community.
